Technical Information About This Website's Accessibility

Bampton Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No.2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below:-

  • Some of the page headings do not make it clear what the page is
  • Menus cannot be navigated without a mouse
  • Some of the pictures do not have alternative text
  • Some parts of pages have low contrast
  • Some font sizes are too small

Non-Accessible Content

The contents listed below are not accessible for the following reasons:-

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

We plan to add text alternatives for all images by March 2021. When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.

Some page headings are different to the title of the page. We plan to ensure all page headings are correct and up to date by December 2020.

Some parts of pages have contrast issues. We plan to have this fully compliant by March 2021.

Disproportionate Burden

The menu cannot be navigated without using a mouse. This is a disproportionate burden as our current budget did not include covering the cost of this work. We plan to investigate the cost of this work in autumn/winter to see if it is a viable cost to include in next year's budget.

Content Not Within the Scope of the Accessibility Regulations

PDF's and word documents are essential to providing our services and include, for example, information on how the Council is run, agendas and minutes. Any information will be added as an HTML page from March 2021, and we will explore the cost of replacing existing documents over the next financial year.

What we're doing to improve accessibility.

After the initial review, we are working through the list of items that are not compliant and discussing ways to improve these within the limitations of our current website technology. Our plan is to tackle things which can make the most difference and are within our budget limitations, and remaining items on the list will be discussed by Councillors at the budget review so an agreement can be made on what can be done in the next financial year.  Our plan is to launch a new and fully compliant website by March 2021.
